The regulatory framework
China regulates food and beverages under SAMR and the GB national standards (notably GB 7718 for labelling), while health food follows two distinct entry paths: domestic registration through SAMR's Blue Hat system (lengthy, expensive, required for broad distribution) and cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) via bonded warehouse platforms like Tmall Global (faster, limited to online channels). The 2025 SAMR ban on KOL livestreaming for health food and the updated GB 7718 labelling measures (effective March 2027) are reshaping how foreign food, beverage and supplement brands approach the market.
